Sue, 64, ME for 7 years. Three weeks after learning the Lightning Process
Abi, 19, ME and Cerebral Palsy
It's been almost two months since I did the Lightning Process, although it's gone by so fast I can hardly believe it. As you know, before the seminar I was using a wheelchair most of the time, taking several rest breaks a day and relying on a personal assistant to enable me to do day-to-day activities like shopping, getting outdoors and even washing my hair. Going anywhere involved huge planning because I could only manage about 3 hours before I'd crash into extreme tiredness (and even that was progress from when I first fell ill). I also struggled with insomnia - if I ever did too much activity my body would pump out so much adrenalin to cope with the change that I would be awake all night with my body and head rushing uncontrollably.
Since then I've barely stopped. I've been to Italy to visit my brother without any assistance and stayed out dancing all night. I've been swimming, cycling, started doing ballet exercises again and have lost almost all the weight I gained from two years of inertia. I've walked everywhere and slept brilliantly. I've taken buses, got lost, got found again and loved every minute of it! Whereas before I had to have complete silence in order to sleep, and always had to leave parties or send my friends home early, since doing the process we've had a constant stream of visitors; old friends and new coming in to celebrate my recovery. On Monday my favourite musician flew in from New York to play a one-off gig in my local bar. Not only was I able to make it to the gig and stay the whole evening, but the singer needed a place to sleep so he came back to our house and we stayed up late with friends, drinking beer and sharing artwork and poetry. Living the life I love or what?!
I'm also an interesting case because whereas most people have no cause for their ME, I had a diagnosis which suggested that it was caused by an earlier problem. I was born with a mild brain lesion (Cerebral Palsy) in the area of the brain that deals with automatic movement. Whereas most people walk and move without even realising what they are doing, for me every time I took a step was like I was trying it for the first time. It was quite uncomfortable, looked very awkward and incredibly exhausting. Using the Lightning Process, I've managed to find another route in my brain for the messages to become automatic. One day my feet just started moving properly and I realised for the first time ever how easy it actually is to walk! I didn't even realise how laboured and difficult it had been for me before. Now I can walk for miles easily, enjoyably and best of all, my feet do it automatically. I rarely even have to use the process anymore for this.
I've applied to university and am making the most of recovery time before I start to look for a job. What's great about the Lightning Process is that I've been granted a tool for life which can help me with all sorts of things. I am now using the process to increase my confidence, learn to sing again and recover from a wheat intolerance.
Thanks for all your amazing help and support.Back to the top
Graham, 43, CFS for 4 years
Two months after learning the Lightning Process
Also updated after four months (see below)
I was diagnosed with CFS and in total was ill for four years. I started with severe stress, phobias and depression. While I managed to get over the depression and the phobias, I was stuck with the CFS, try as I might I could not get over it.
My symptoms were extreme debilitating tiredness, headaches and stomach bloating, amongst other things. The vast majority of my time was spent stuck in the house too exhausted to do anything; even a visit to town or to the supermarket was something I had to avoid, as the after effects could last for days.
I did manage to go to college one day per week but that one day really took its toll on me. The effects of one day at college would leave me ill, sometimes for several days.
By half way through the day at college I would get a severe headache and my stomach would start to bloat so much that is was uncomfortable to keep my belt fastened. I would rush home so exhausted I just could not get into bed fast enough, for a couple of days after I would feel like I had the worst hangover imaginable and it could take several days to recover.
Once I had recovered, I would then start to worry about going back next week, how was I going to get through another day at college? The night before college I would not be able to sleep, because I was so worried about getting through the next day.
I used to wonder how I ever managed to work 6 to 7 days every week in my own business turning over £3.5 million per year, and certainly did not think I would ever be able to do it again.
My symptoms were so strong and of such a physical nature, nothing I had tried had been able to shift them, I started to believe that this was going to be my lot for the rest of my life. I was never going to be able to do the things I used to be able to do again!
Reading things about CFS/ME such as;
“Without treatment, full recovery from CFS is rare (an estimated 5% recover fully), though around 40% of individuals improve over time. A co-existing psychiatric disorder reduces the chances of recovery”.
Crown Copyright (2006) Occupational aspects of the management of chronic fatigue syndrome: evidence-based guidance for healthcare professionals
As well as having been told by my GP that some people never recover, and after not having been able to recover myself, despite going for alternative therapy sessions and trying my hardest to be positive, I started to believe that the best I could hope for was “To improve over time” and that a complete recovery to the energy levels I had previously had was just not going to happen.
I first heard of the Lightning Process in a local BBC news segment, after having seen so much rubbish and downright fraudulent claims made by dubious websites, I had stopped searching the web for solutions. The BBC story was about a teacher in the north east of England who had recovered from CFS/ME. She was having trouble going to school to teach just one lesson per day and was considering giving even that up, when she came across the Lightning Process. She was now back at work full time.
This got my attention as she was back at work full time and claimed that she had better energy levels than she had ever had. I could not ignore this it was potentially an end to this completely intractable illness that was ruining life.
I logged on to LightningProcess.com in order to find out more , and once on the site, the testimonials from such people as Esther Rantzen and Austin Healy, the before and after videos, as well as the Registered Trademark Status of the Lightening Process itself, helped to gain my confidence. This was obviously not just another con. I ordered a copy of the Introduction to the Lightening Process by Phil Parker and filled in a Lightening Process application form.
Kate Gare was an excellent trainer. By the end of day 1 of the training process I was making progress, by the end of day 2, I was making further progress still and after day 3, I was confident I was going to beat CFS once and for all.
After returning home from the training seminar I still had to put effort in to overcome my by now reduced symptoms, but by the end of week one I had really turned the corner things has changed for the better, I was no longer having to apply the process and I no longer had the symptoms.
This was not some kind of semi recovery, or a reduction of the symptoms, this was the end of CFS for good. I was able to go college without getting a headache or stomach bloating and even came home feeling fresh. I was able to sleep properly get up early and get through a busy day without any symptoms and without having to apply the Lightning Process to do it. Two months on and being well again is now the norm.
If you do the Lightning Process training course and apply what you learn on the course you will completely recover, the idea of ever regressing back to CFS/ME will be a nonsense.
The process is not some kind of magic wand that your trainer will wave over you and make you better; it is a method for you yourself to break the pattern CFS/ME.
Neither is the process some kind of rocket science, Phil Parker the designer of the Lightning Process has simply understood how CFS/ME comes about and has devised a programme that takes it apart. All I can say is thank goodness someone has!
So…
Q. How many Lightning Process Trainers does it take to change a light bulb?
A. Just one of course… but the light bulb has got to want to change!
Update - Four months on
It is now four months since I attended the lightning process seminar with Kate Gare. I was ill for a total of four years and had been diagnosed with CFS.
Now four months down the line and I am back in full time employment. I have got into the new career that I wanted to be in and am working a 45 hour week with an hour commute each way, on top of that I get up in enough time each morning to allow my self a visit to the gym before work, I am able to do all this easily and keep myself “in the zone” throughout the working week thanks to the powerful skills I learned on the seminar.
My energy levels are better now than they were before I was ill. When I think back to how I was when I was ill the change is fantastic, at the time I didn’t think I would ever be back to normal again, now it is no exaggeration to say that I am better than I ever was and I definitely do not have CFS anymore.
I would recommend the lightning process to not just people with CFS/ME but to anyone who wants to affect positive change in their life. It has given me a control over not just CFS but over what ever else is going on in my mind.
My G.P. was very pleased when I told her about my great news of being free from CFS and being back in full time work. She was very keen to hear about the Lightning Process and after seeing the change in me she was extremely pleased that she will be able to tell her other CFS/ME patients that there is something that really does work.Back to the top

Six months after learning the Lightning Process
It’s a long time since we met........but my life has been so busy.
I just want to tell you a bit about my new life! I'm working 40% (but most weeks 50%) as a paediat ric leader in kindergarden. The first day in my ob (and 5 years since the last time I worked) I said to myself ‘this is the happiest day of my life for a very long time’. It was a GREAT feeling! And only two weeks after the course, I started to work two days a week in kindergarden as a helper.
As you see at the photos I sent you, I am doing other things too. I walk about 1-2 hour every day. For three days in July my husband and I went walking in the Trollheimen mountains. I went from 360 moh up to the highest top at 1669 moh!!! (I just used the Lightning Process to help!)
I love my new life and am very thankful. And it is good that my friend did the course with me as we are traveling together on the same "road", because there are still hills at the road. But the new thing is that I can climb them! I just have to take one step at a time (and not all of the steps at the same time...)

This is a excerpt taken from the online forum Chronic Epstein-Barr Virus Support forum cebv.org. Reproduced with permission from John. Eight weeks after learning the Lightning Process.
I went on a three day "Lightning Process" course in London in November, and the effects have been extremely positive. Over the past few years I've tried various treatments including acupuncture, the Perrin Technique, reflexology and many different vitamin/mineral supplements. I've posted on this site (the cebv.org) about the positive effects that some of those treatments had for me. However, the benefits were minimal compared to the massive and rapid improvement that I have had since going on the Lightning Process course. Eight weeks after doing the three-day Lightning Process course, I feel well enough to plan a new life in a different country. At the end of January I'm leaving London to go and live in China. This is something I've wanted to do for a couple of years but, until now, I've not been well enough.
For me, some of the symptoms (such as irritable bowel) went away within a few days. Overall though, my improvement has been a little bit slower than some people report (after 8 weeks I'm about 95% recovered) but I think that's because I'm also using the Lightning Process to tackle some other issues that I had going on (and which I won't bore you with).
The course is very challenging - you have to be prepared to challenge your own beliefs about your illness. It also requires a lot of effort on your own part, especially in the first week or so after you go on the course. However, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Lightning Process to anyone with CEBV or other fatigue syndromes like CFS. It costs about £600 to do the course in the UK. However, that is a fairly small amount compared to the thousands I've spent on acupuncture, Perrin, reflexology and food supplements over the last few years. I now laugh when I look at the huge amounts of vitamins and other dietary supplements that I used to take. I no longer feel like I need to take any of them.
I'd wholeheartedly recommend Kate's course - she was very caring and very thorough and went out of her way to make sure that all of us on the course got the most out of it.

Thay, 35, ME for 10 years
One month after learning the Lightning Process
I had ME for ten years. In that time I achieved many wonderful things including a PhD, a fantastic marriage and a beautiful baby. However, I also had constant pain and tension in my muscles, congestion in my head and overwhelming fatigue. There were times when I hated life.
Four weeks ago I learnt the Lightning Process. The results have been amazing. I arrived for day two of the course with a huge grin on my face. I had looked in the mirror and seen colour in my cheeks and a sparkle in my eyes that I could barely remember. By the end of day three I was buzzing. I had baked a cake (and laughed when it collapsed).
I had pushed my toddler round and round in the worst weather imaginable and felt exhilarated. I had knocked back Prosecco with my husband and felt joy and excitement. And I had finished the day with the most relaxing bath ever. I was beginning to love life again.
Four weeks later I am still marvelling at the results. I run up the stairs at work. I go out afterwards on a whim (and drink way too much!). I am calm when my toddler has a tantrum. I walk and walk and walk. Most importantly I am looking forward to the future. Back to the top
Five months after learning the Lightning Process.
Thanks so much for all your help Kate - here's my story. My name is Kit, and I am now seventeen years old. I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome when I was twelve years old. At the time, I was playing county-level tennis and was predicted to reach national standard. I was also working towards common entrance and had a hectic schedule of work and tennis with little rest. After being diagnosed with the illness, I was not able to play tennis at all, after playing an average of twelve hours a week. I also could not focus on school work and felt as if I could not concentrate without getting a migraine, or without getting extremely tired and depressed. This continued for four years. Getting up for school sometimes felt impossible, and I felt so depressed that at times I just wanted to give up, and so tired that remembering past successes seemed useless, as I could not envisage that I would ever be able to achieve anything similar again.
However, my physical condition did gradually improve, until I was sixteen and able to play sport properly. Nonetheless, my concentration had still been severely affected, and my grades suffered as a result. In the summer of 2008, before I had taken my AS levels, I contacted Kate Gare, and expressed my frustration at having had such a debilitating illness, leading to a feeling of under-achievement which could not be properly expressed to friends or teachers. After talking to Kate about these things, and being reassured as to the possibility of change and full recovery from the illness, I booked a place on the Lightning Process course in mid-July. This was a monumental decision, and one which marked the beginning of a full recovery from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Although the course only lasted three days, what I learned (or rather, what I was reminded of!) proved invaluable for me in overcoming the illness, and I, along with the rest of the small group, were given the Phil Parker Lightning Process CD which reiterated and developed on the information given on the course. I learned what was required for change, and since then, have been able to concentrate on my studies more than I ever had been able to during the course of my illness, and have enjoyed life a lot more as a result.
It is difficult to come to terms with a physical illness which many people do not understand, and which can lead to depression and a feeling of complete isolation. However, this is all the more reason to try to change the situation and sign up for the Lightning Process course. It is easy to be cynical about recovery, and to deny that the illness (in my case, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) is affecting health at all, when other people believe that the real problem is laziness. However, it is a leap of faith worth taking. Although it takes practise, and is very much based on the initiative of the individual, I believe that everyone who takes the course is equipped with the information necessary to change their health for the better. A crucial part of the course is the fantastic help offered by Lightning Process practitioners after the three days; a free consultation is available, and they are willing to help you to put in place what you have learned if you are having difficulty. For me, the course proved invaluable and the help offered has enabled me to feel physically and mentally able to achieve the aspirations which I once thought were unrealistic. I strongly recommend the Lightning Process as it provides a means to overcome illnesses like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and is something which can improve all areas of life with enough practise and dedication. Lynn, ME for 9 years
Having had M.E. for nine years, in April this year I had a relapse that left me bed bound for 2 months. I gradually recovered to the point where I could dress and ‘shuffle’ around the house but had to use a wheelchair if I went out. I went on the training course with my Mother as my carer and after the first day walked with her around the town for half an hour, a major achievement for me. After day 2 I realised that I had not needed to ‘rest’ at all, all day, or needed my wheelchair. At the end of day 3, the end of the course, I knew that with commitment and persistence I could get back my old life.
Six weeks on, I am over the moon with my progress. I have returned to work on a phased programme and am up to 3 hours a day. I am cooking the evening meals again and doing housework, shopping etc. I have even been Christmas shopping for 5 hours! As I was bed bound for so long it is taking me some time to be pain free, but I strongly believe this is NOT the M.E., but me using my muscles again.
I cannot stop grinning and am extremely happy and I know that as the weeks go by I will get stronger and stronger.
If you are reading this testimonial thinking, will it work for me, if you have the commitment and are persistent in applying the process, I believe it will.

Neil, 35, CFS for 10 years
Two weeks after learning the Lightning Process
This is just a quick note to say a huge thank you to you both for your instrumental role in what is fast turning into a total health transformation for me and my family.
I became unwell with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in March 1998 after a traumatic emergency procedure in hospital. I was 24 at the time and hugely enjoying a busy but immensely satisfying job as a product designer in central London and my role as a youth-group leader in my local church. With Chronic Fatigue, however, I rapidly deteriorated to a state where I was unable to walk for more than a couple of minutes each day and I was forced to take sick leave and move back to my parents house in Wiltshire.
After many months of tests and conflicting advice, I began to make progress using the 'graduated exercise' approach recommended through the medical insurers provided by my employer. I learned how to break my daily activities down into units of energy and to recognise the impact that not just walking, but also more 'low level' forms of energy expenditure like typing, or talking on the phone had on my health. Ever-so-slowly, I began to make progress, adding one tiny increment to the next and working with iron-discipline to avoid exceeding my daily 'energy budget'.
I discovered that Chronic Fatigue was an unforgiving master – that upwards progress was slow and painstaking, and that all my gains could be lost in an instant by unexpected or ill-advised use of energy. But by carefully recording the things that worked and avoiding the things that didn't I was able, over a period of years, to gain strength enough to return to London and ultimately to return to work.
The battle was far from over, however. Without guidance about how to handle a gradual return to work, I quickly faced a serious set back and, this time, a period of 4 years slow recovery. And though I found wonderful support in my faith and from my friends, the relapse only underlined for me the cruelty of the condition and the fragility of my gains. By 2006 I was back at work full time again and my wife and I had begun a family. But during the run up to the birth of our second child in March 2008, I had another major setback and my health started to deteriorate rapidly once more. It was at this point that we heard through a friend about the Lightning Process.
The Lightning Process centres around an intensive 3-day training course and I must say that, had I been making progress at the time I heard about it rather than going backwards, this in itself would have been enough to dissuade me from getting involved with it. Energy expenditure outside normal parameters is the one thing I had learned to avoid at all costs during my years of work with graduated exercise and if I had had even a small record of gains to protect at the time of signing up for the course, I don't believe I would have put them 'at risk' in order to try it. But, in God's kindness, that was not my situation, and I decided it was worth a chance before I began what I knew would be another desperately lengthy battle with the limitations of the graduated exercise approach.
So I enrolled on the course closest to my home in Wimbledon and all I can say is that the transformation that has taken place in my health and in our lives as a family has been both bizarre and wonderful. The walk that I managed at my wellest (48 minutes total) I have now run. And not only that, I have come home, showered and then got the kids up, made breakfast, taken our eldest daughter to the park and then helped out around the house and spent the evening chatting with friends. Anyone who has done graduated exercise will know that ought to be suicide. But with the Lightning Process I simply do not have those limitations anymore, I am free to do what I want for the first time in 10 years and I thank God – and Phil and his team – for this amazing gift.
5 months after learning the Lightning Process
Firstly I like to thank you so very much for the weekend in Clapham, and your dedication to us getting well. And it really worked for me. I am up and about doing the things that I love.
Life is good now that my body is well, and I can do what I like to do without holding back. And because I love doing sport, I am doing a lot of that. And being with the people I like, and work..and and and...:-)
All the things I said I wanted to do when I got well, I am doing now. So again..THANK YOU!!!
Back to the topSue Hoar, 64, ME for 7 years
Three weeks after learning the Lightning Process
I had ME for 7 years before going to Kate for the Lightning Process course. I had to take early retirement because of ME and had a lot of problems with mobility and with my voice which disappeared for days at a time. I have tried just about every alternative therapy available and while some helped I remained stuck with ME and none took me beyond a certain plateau of wellness. Oh and I wasted a lot of money!
In the last couple of years, I have been only moderately affected….I described it as living my life to the full two thirds of the time and resting the remaining third trying to recover from what I had done. So, not a bad life but not what I would describe as a full one. I was pretty much of a boom and bust baby …the bust times included being unable to speak, to walk only short distances with a bad limp (in fact I have been through John Cleese’s entire repertoire of funny walks in the last seven years). I spent whole days on the sofa and suffered from the horrible ME muzziness and congestion of the head. I am a keen artist, grandmother and walker but all three activities left me exhausted. I planned my diary so that I had enough rest days in between activities.
I can’t believe it is only just over two weeks ago that I did LP with Kate – so much has changed in that time. The first 48 hours after the course I was euphoric. Walked all over London in terrible weather conditions and even managed to sing after the first day – the first time in 5 years or so. Then, for the remainder of that week, I became manic – fitting an unbelievable amount of activity into each day.
When I found myself getting tired, I panicked.” I can’t get tired”, I thought...”Tiredness means I still have ME.” “Calm down,” said my daughter who had also attended the course. I did eventually calm down. I realised that people in normal life do get tired after busy days BUT the big difference - they recover after a good night’s sleep. So that is what happens now….lots of activity; fitting several things into one day – lots of walking, when before I would have taken the car, no rests. And then at the end of the day, I am healthily tired and go to bed and sleep well. Then, lo and behold, I wake up in the morning feeling fine again and fully restored and ready for another active day! Nothing special – maybe – no mountains climbed (yet) but for me a miracle.
When Kate asked us at the beginning of the course what we wanted. One of the things I mentioned was the energy to paint as much as I liked. Well, I am very excited about my painting, which I have been doing a lot of these two weeks. It has always been colourful and vibrant but the two I have done this fortnight are different. I am happier with these paintings than I have been with any previously. They are still vibrant but at the centre of the vibrancy is a calmness and joy, I don’t believe I have captured before. I hope other people think so too because I am entering them for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition - not much hope but fun to try.!
So thank you Kate and Phil and the Lightning Process for a new full bite at life - no more boom and bust and a full diary!
